Jeuveau Injectable Treatments in Houston, TX with Dr. Livingston

Without help, you don’t get to make a lot of choices when it comes to the aging process. Factors such as your family history and how much environmental damage your skin has willingly or unwillingly endured are undoubtedly more powerful than any over-the-counter moisturizer you can buy. Cosmetic medicine, however, is all about giving you back the power to make choices about the way you really wish to age.

Jeuveau is a powerful new injectable product that straps you in the driver’s seat and allows you to treat wrinkles, lines, and other signs of aging with ease. It works much like its well-known colleague in the family of botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators, Botox®. Jeuveau®, cleverly described as NEWTOX in some spaces, is an all-new wrinkle-relaxing injectable we’re excited to offer as part of our non-surgical skin treatments to the Houston, TX, area at Livingston Plastic Surgery.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A NEUROMODULATORS

The history of injectables like Jeuveau and BOTOX lies somewhere between ophthalmology (the study and treatment of eye disorders) and dermatology. More than 30 years ago, the company Allergan got the green light from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat specific types of eye disorders with a botulinum toxin neuromodulator type A marketed as BOTOX.

Not long after, BOTOX received approval for cosmetic applications when a plastic surgeon successfully used it to treat facial asymmetry as a result of nerve paralysis on a patient’s forehead. In 2002, the FDA approved it to treat glabellar lines, which are the vertical lines that form between the eyebrows and usually result from frowning, squinting, focusing, and scowling throughout the years.

Since then, botulinum toxin neuromodulators have grown immensely in popularity with cosmetic medicine patients. In 2019, there were nearly 7.7 million of these injections given in the United States, accounting for nearly half of all non-surgical cosmetic procedures in America last year.

Since the emergence of BOTOX, there have been several competing products offered by manufacturers. To date, there are four on the market: BOTOX, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and now, Jeuveau.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JEUVEAU INJECTABLE TREATMENTS?

Jeuveau received FDA approval in February 2019. It is less of a competitor to BOTOX than an alternative to it. Structurally, the two products are similar, and both offer the ability to temporarily improve the appearance of signs of aging such as frown lines and wrinkles in specific parts of the face. In general, botulinum toxin neuromodulator type A injections cosmetically treat wrinkles and provide a more youthful, overall smoother facial appearance.

BOTOX is FDA-approved to treat a longer list of medical concerns, whereas Jeuveau’s specific purpose is to address frown lines around and in between the eyebrows. Technically, the ingredients in the two products are about the same, but the manufacturing and purification processes differ. Jeuveau, for example, uses a proprietary Hi-Pure technology in its manufacturing process to separate itself from competing injectables.

While the similar nature of these injectables results in relatively the same benefits for the patient, sometimes one brand may work better than the other for you. If you’re already using BOTOX and it’s effective for you, there may be no reason to switch. However, if BOTOX (or Dysport or Xeomin) haven’t been working well for you, it may be time to give Jeuveau a trial in your anti-aging plan.

Various factors affect the overall cost of a treatment plan, but Jeuveau does seem to offer some price advantages at a lower cost per unit in most cases. It’s more accessible for a total rejuvenation or even touch-up treatments for some patients, but it usually just comes down to preference.

WHAT’S A JEUVEAU APPOINTMENT LIKE?

The neuromodulator part of botulinum toxin means it works by temporarily rendering muscles that cause wrinkles in the face immobile. Appointments are quick and most patients report minimal, if any, discomfort. During your appointment, our team of Jeuveau experts will clean and mark the area where you’ll receive injections. Then, we will go over all the treatment information, medical questions, and make sure you don’t have any concerns. A typical appointment only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to perform.

Results will start showing soon and will gradually improve over the next week. Your results should be long-lasting, usually about three to four months. Some research is underway to determine if Jeuveau results are longer-lasting than other brands of botulinum toxin neuromodulator injectables, but no conclusive results have emerged. One study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal found that about a third of Jeuveau patients studied had results lasting nearly five months. As mentioned, however, available evidence seems to suggest some people merely have a more favorable experience with some brands over others.

My experience is always great at Dr. Livingston office. He takes great care of his patients, he’s knowledgeable of his work, kind and very patient. The staff is great also, it’s a warm welcome every time.

JEUVEAU SAFETY INFORMATION

According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, 43 muscles in the human face give you the ability to make facial expression. Only a handful, however, contribute to the signs of aging. As with BOTOX and other botulinum toxin neuromodulators, Jeuveau complications and risks are rare, but you should always have injections performed by a skilled practitioner. Doing so will help mitigate any risks and ensure you get the best results for your investment.

You should not have Jeuveau or other botulinum toxin type A injections if you are:

  • Pregnant
  • Intend to become pregnant soon
  • Breastfeeding
  • Have allergies or known sensitivities to botulinum toxin type A products

During your consultation, we’ll do a full run of questions to determine what types of medications you’re taking and if any previous medical procedures would affect your treatments.

Side effects from Jeuveau injections tend to be extremely mild. You may experience some redness, bruising, swelling, and slight numbness at the injection site. These should resolve on their own within a few days.
