Butt Implants vs. Brazilian Butt Lift: Which is Right for You
Many of our patients desire a shapely, round backside. If you are considering plastic surgery for improved contours and proportions, you have a couple of options to choose from to enhance your derriere. These butt augmentation procedures include a Brazilian butt lift and butt implants.
Although both provide excellent results, it can be challenging to choose which is best for you and your unique body. Here we provide information which will help you become more informed about each procedure and which one may be best for you.
The Brazilian Butt Lift
The Brazilian butt lift has gained increased popularity over the past few years. This body contouring procedure involves taking fat from one area of the body and grafting it into the buttocks to enhance shape and size. During the fat injection, Dr. Livingston may be able to remove any excess skin.
Benefits of Brazilain Butt Lift
The Brazilian butt lift is a popular choice for a few reasons. The biggest advantage is the procedure uses a natural tissue to increase the volume, so the results are natural as well. The look and feel are more consistent with a natural tissue because it is a natural tissue.
Another benefit is the fat used can come from a body area where the patient seeks to decrease an unwanted fat bulge, like the abdomen or thigh area. Here you can kill two birds with one stone as you reduce volume in one area while increasing volume in the target buttocks area.
BBL Risks
A drawback with a Brazilian butt lift is not all injected fat will remain in the buttocks area. Some fat will be absorbed by the body, and additional fat grafting may be necessary. However, the fat which does survive will be a permanent solution.
Although Dr. Livingston is well-versed in the Brazilian butt lift procedure, there is no guarantee the treatment will not require additional graftings.
Butt Implants
Butt implants are designed to enhance the size of the buttocks. These implants typically have a silicone core, which can withstand the stress and pressure put on the buttocks without losing shape or becoming flat. Like breast implants, butt implants come in a range of shapes and sizes. There are round implants, and oval implants; some have a smooth texture while others have a more pebble-like surface.
Butt Implants Benefits
For patients who are slim and don’t have enough excess fat to transfer from one area to the target buttocks area, implants may be the best option. However, some patients choose implants, because although they have enough fat in a donor site, they want to increase the size of their rear more dramatically.
Butt Implants Risks
Implants do have their unique risks when comparing them to a Brazilian butt lift. Capsular contracture is a risk with all implants. This complication occurs when the adjacent tissue around the implant hardens and puts pressure on the implant. This may cause some pain and discomfort.
Implants also may shift or move from their original position. With an enormous amount of pressure from sitting and moving, an implant shift may cause the outline to look unnatural as well.
Considerations
If you are considering enhancing the size and shape of your buttocks, it’s important to seek the consultation of a board-certified plastic surgeon. Unfortunately, the procedure can be legally performed by any licensed physician whether they have enough training for a safe and effective outcome or not. Board-certified plastic surgeons are highly trained and require the extensive training necessary to perform these invasive procedures.
