How Long Does A Butt Augmentation Last?

Posted in Butt Augmentation

In today’s society, especially with social media and celebrities showing up on our everyday feeds somehow looking even more beautiful than they did just a few months before, many people agree that a desirable body shape includes a rounded, full backside. This means that in the last few years, butt augmentations either through implants or fat transfer, have increased in popularity. Board-certified plastic surgeon and internationally recognized specialist Dr. Christopher K. Livingston has years of experience performing successful augmentations in Houston, TX.

Dr. Livingston can accentuate the rear using a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift), where fat is extracted from a secondary location on your body through a gentle liposuction technique. The fat is then processed and transferred back into a specific location in the buttock to add volume, shape, and projection. Often, the results of a BBL can potentially last for decades without the need for follow-up treatments if the body and skin are managed and well-taken care of during that time.

How Is Butt Augmentation Using Fat Transfer Performed?

The Brazilian Butt lift utilizes a fat transfer procedure to enhance the size and shape of your buttock. First, liposuction is performed to harvest fat from a donor region such as the abdomen, back, or thighs. This fat is then purified before being strategically injected into varying locations and depths in your buttocks in order to achieve your desired outcome.

Not All of the Fat Will Be Retained

During the first few weeks after your procedure, you will lose approximately 30-40% of the volume during the fat transfer procedure. Don’t let this alarm you; Dr. Livingston is able to plan for this loss by slightly overfilling the buttock during your fat transfer. This will allow you to achieve your desired results even though the entire amount of fat isn’t retained.

Steps You Can Take to Maximize Your Butt Augmentation Results

In addition to avoiding sitting on your butt, you should also take the following steps after surgery to maximize the duration of your butt augmentation results:

Wear the proper garments

Make sure to wear the compression garments provided to you by Dr. Livingston in order to facilitate the healing process. You’ll also need to avoid wearing tight or constricting clothing during the first few weeks of recovery since these garments can damage the fat cells transferred into your buttocks.

Watch your diet

You’ll want to eat foods that provide your body with the nutrients necessary to heal. Choose foods that are high in fat and protein, like avocados, walnuts, salmon, grass-fed butter, chicken, and whole grains.

Be Or Become a Non-Smoker

Smoking can hinder the proper blood supply from reaching the newly transferred fat cells, which can reduce the likelihood that they will survive the procedure. In addition, smoking impedes your body’s ability to heal, which can increase the risk of complications and potentially have a negative effect on your final results.

Do not resume exercising until Dr. Livingston Approves

For most butt augmentation patients, it takes around 6-8 weeks for the body to fully heal. You’ll need to avoid strenuous exercise during this time. Once Dr. Livingston clears you for exercise, we recommend gradually increasing your efforts as your body will have lost some muscle during recovery. You’ll want to ensure that your body doesn’t burn newly planted fat in your buttocks.
