The Plastic Surgeries Moms Deserve

It’s no secret that being a mom is a full-time job (a tough one at that). It’s also no secret that pregnancy and mommy duties are extremely tough on your body. This partially explains why the “mommy makeover” trend is on the rise. And for good reason.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is easily defined as a series of plastic surgery procedures, usually done the same day, that restore or improve your post-pregnancy body. These procedures not only give you a more toned post-pregnancy appearance, they can also help you regain any confidence lost during pregnancy.

Sometimes It’s More Than Diet and Exercise

Some women are lucky. Their bodies bounce right back after giving birth. Others can tighten their physique with a clean diet and regular exercise. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for all women.

Take post-pregnancy breasts, for example. Women with naturally large breasts will notice they deflate and become misshapen and most notably saggy. They may also experience pain in the neck and back areas. There is no amount of diet or exercise that can help breasts regain their fullness and keep them from sagging, which is exactly why many women decide to have breast surgery.

Plastic Surgery by the Numbers

Among the most common procedures associated with mommy makeovers are breast augmentations (279,143 procedures were done in 2015, making it the most-performed procedure), breast lifts, breast reductions, liposuction and tummy tucks. (Source: ASPS)

As the average age of women giving birth goes up, these procedures are becoming more and more common. According to U.S. News, “the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the average age of women who had their first child in 2014 was 26 years and four months – or about one year and five months older than the 2000 average.”

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons further reports that over 1.9 million procedures were performed on women in the U.S. last year. Procedures on women with children have surged, like breast lifts, which are up 649% since 1997.

There are also many non-invasive skin and wrinkle treatments that help rejuvenate and restore skin, such as Botox and injectable fillers. Botox produces temporary paralysis of the facial muscles, which can help crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and worry lines become less noticeable.

Injectable fillers are a great option for patients who aren’t ready for surgical procedures but want to achieve a more youthful appearance. Both are done in office and patients can return back to work immediately.
